Important Notice regarding Coronavirus

With regret, we are going to have to cancel Settle Harriers junior training with effect from Tuesday 17th March.
This is a result of the new government guidelines issued on the 16th which advise against “non essential contact with others” and “unnecessary travel”.
The Fell Runners Association and England Athletics have also advised that club training nights, races and other club events  should not be held for the time being.
We will of course contact parents when it is considered “safe” to resume sessions again.

Helm Hill have now announced that the remaining Kendal Winter League fixtures have been cancelled.
The Kettlewell FRA Junior Championships fixture on Sat 28th March has also been cancelled.

It’s probably safe to assume that unfortunately there will no more races until the government’s guidelines are eased.

Keep safe and best wishes,

Andy Evans

Junior Club Championship Races – Updated 16th March

The finalised Junior Club Championship fixture list can now be seen/downloaded at https://settleharriers.org/juniors-under-21s/junior-championship/

For those interested in the BOFRA series, their fixture list can now be viewed here  http://bofra.org.uk/racecalendar/

Details of forthcoming Junior Championships races are below.  Please check race websites regularly though as the list of fixtures cancelled due to coronavirus concerns is getting longer every day….

– The next KWL is next Sunday (22nd March) at Elterwater Common (in Langdale).  This one, held in a spectacular location, will be a counter for our Junior Club Championships.

– On the following weekend there are 2 fixtures that will count towards our championship – so juniors have a choice or they some may even opt for both !

Sat 28th March – FRA Junior Championships (Race 1) at Kettlewell.  The FRA Junior Champs races usually have larger fields than KWL races and the standard is higher at the front end of the fields.  So a good test for those of our juniors with high aspirations.  Kettlewell offers a testing course (but not quite as steep as the BOFRA races at Kettlewell later in the year).  Details at https://www.harrogate-harriers.co.uk/races/kettlewell-kaper

Sun 29 March – Helm Hill KWL.  This is the last scoring KWL of the season – so last chance for juniors to get in their 4 races or improve their league positions.  The courses are hilly but runnable – mainly on grassy tracks.

All the KWL information can be found at  http://www.helmhill.co.uk/ including location details & course maps. Please remember the rules about juniors carrying kit at each fixture (waterproof top, hat & gloves)

Please note that, after the 3 cancellations, juniors finishing 4 KWLs or more will receive a special medal and award from the League in April.

March News Update

KENDAL WINTER LEAGUE & JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

After 3 cancelled fixtures, the KWL resumed on the 1st March at Cunswick and 11 of our juniors took part.  See Jess’s report here Cunswick Kendal Winter League  This fixture was a counter towards our Junior Club Championships (fixture number 4).

The next KWL fixture is on Sunday (8th March)  at Cautley Spout.  This one won’t count towards our junior club championships.  It is one of the steeper ones, probably not ideal for novices.

The next one after that is on Sunday 22nd March at Elterwater Common (in Langdale).  This one, held in a spectacular location, will be a counter for our Junior club championships.

All the KWL information can be found at  http://www.helmhill.co.uk/ including location details & course maps. Please remember the rules about juniors carrying kit at each fixture (waterproof top, hat & gloves)

Remember also that any juniors finishing 5 KWLs or more will receive a special medal and award from the League in April. This number is likely to be reduced due to the 3 recent cancellations.
