Settle Harriers ParkRun initiative

Settle Harriers has decided to trial a “ParkRun” initiative – particularly aimed at those aged 11 and above, but also open to younger juniors and adults too.

In addition to Junior Club Championship & other fell races, its proposed that the club has a presence in some of the very popular and low key ParkRuns that exist in this area.

The idea is to have a club presence at a Park Run event once every month, with a member of our coaching staff there to meet club members and show them the salient points of the course etc. They may well take part themselves or be on the sidelines cheering on and offering encouragement. There are 8 different ParkRuns within an hour’s drive from Settle and we hope to visit each of these over a period of time.

Settle Harriers will be kicking off this initiative at Skipton ParkRun on Saturday 9th November (run starts at 9.00am in Aireville Park, Skipton).

We do hope that older juniors (and perhaps some younger ones and parents too) will be able to come along and give this a go – it should be a good morning and a chance for our junior and senior members to come together at an event.

Just a few points to remember…….

– Skipton ParkRun is all on tarmac – so wear road shoes/trainers rather than fell shoes.
– ParkRuns are open to seniors and juniors – but see note below
– younger juniors (under 11) can take part but under ParkRun rules they must be closely accompanied on the run by an adult
– Carol and Andy will be at Aireville Park near the finish line from 8.30am – so look out for us there and we can all do a spot of warming up and course recceing before the start
– do wear Settle Harriers vests in the run (good for advertising the club and you will get more support as you run round)
– you need to register for ParkRun & print off a barcode if you have not already done so – the link is https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/  Make sure to bring your barcode on the day – you will need to present it at the end of your run
– details of Skipton ParkRun including course map, parking info etc is here https://www.parkrun.org.uk/skipton/course/
– after the event, you may want to join us for a tea/coffee in the Leisure Centre cafe
– any questions, just email me

Hope to see lots of you there !
