Settle Hills Race
What better way to spend a Sunday than running around the beautiful hills above Settle?!
To accommodate the Pen-y-Ghent race hosting the Inter-Counties Championships, for this year only, the Settle Hills Race will be held the following Sunday on the 22nd June 2025.
The race starts in Settle Market Place – a few minutes walk from the Settle Rugby Club, where registration takes place and where the race finish is located.
This is a stunning course in the Yorkshire Dales, offering magnificent views of the limestone outcrops and caves of Attermire Scar, after a challenging climb out of the historic market town of Settle.
Please Note: No dogs are to accompany runners during the race; to do so may damage relationships with the landowners on which this race relies.
Rules:
The race is run under FRA rules, therefore:
All runners must read the principles of fell running and the requirements for runners, including the recent rule changes.
These documents include details of the full FRA mandatory minimum kit that you must bring on the day.
FRA Kit:
Please be prepared and bring full FRA statutory kit – this is likely to be relaxed on the day if weather conditions permit. The route is fully flagged and well marshalled, but it is advisable to carry a map (which is provided free of charge).
Entry:
Entries will open on the 1st February 2025.
Please enter online via SI Entries to secure your place.
- FRA members: £8.00
- None FRA: £10.00
Entry on the day if the race limit has not been reached £12.
Registration:
Race registration, opens at 9:30am and will be upstairs in the North Ribblesdale Rugby Club (Settle).
Terrain:
The race packs quite a punch into 7 miles; after an uphill start out of Settle via bridleways and paths, the route eases off a bit before the steep climb onto rough ground above Attermire Scar.
You will need to follow the marker flags over very lumpy ground towards the first checkpoint at Jubilee Cave. From here you return to good running on fast paths until the slog up to High Hill via rough grassy trods which again is well flagged. From the summit of High Hill, there is a very steep, grassy descent to the second checkpoint and water station at the road crossing.
After a quick slurp of water, you have about a third of the race left to run. The route now follows a rough bridleway and fields back for a sprint across the field to finish back at the Rugby Club and a well-earned cup of tea.
Prize Giving:
This will take place as soon as circumstances permit on the Rugby Pitch.
Car Parking:
Free parking at the Rugby Club – please follow the car park marshals’ directions.
Directions:
From the south, come into Settle off the A65 roundabout, under the railway bridge, turn right at the Falcon Manor Hotel and follow the road down and round to the car park and rugby club.
